Alok Kumar Varshney has received Masters Degree in Microbiology from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (Formerly Agra University), Agra and PhD in Technology from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand. He joined BISR in 2004 and worked on genetic and functional diversity of rhizobacteria of clusterbean and developed Rhizobium based liquid biofertilizer. He has expertise in the field of ligninolytic enzyme studies (Lignin peroxidase, Manganese peroxidase, Laccase ), Fungal gene expression and protein profiling. His current area of research include microbial enzymes and exopolysaccharides of industrial importance, detection methods of water-borne human pathogens and ESBL producing bacteria.
